Global energy data provider TGS has signed an agreement with Ghana’s Petroleum Commission to build a new offshore 2D-cubed seismic project across the Keta Basin, giving explorers a single, unified subsurface view of one of Africa’s most promising underexplored margins.
Phase 1 of the Gulf of Guinea 2D-cubed project will combine 5,500 square kilometres of 3D data with more than 14,700 kilometres of 2D data from multiple surveys to build a 25,300 square kilometre dataset spanning both shelf and deepwater areas of the Keta Basin. TGS’ technology stitches together decades of legacy 2D and 3D surveys into a single, structurally consistent 3D seismic volume, filling gaps between old survey lines and removing legacy imaging artefacts.
David Hajosky, TGS’ Executive Vice President for Multi-Client, said the Keta Basin holds real untapped potential and that the unified dataset would give explorers a ready-made foundation to mature prospects without waiting for fresh 3D surveys to be shot. Final products from Phase 1 are expected in the first quarter of 2027.
