Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, met with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Niang, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across the oil and gas value chain and strengthening the partnership between Algeria’s Sonatrach and Senegal’s Petrosen.

The talks covered exploration and production, field development, refining and petrochemicals, with both sides reaffirming the importance of activating an existing memorandum of understanding between Sonatrach and Petrosen to unlock new investment and technical cooperation. Discussions also touched on training exchanges between the Algerian Petroleum Institute and its Senegalese counterpart, as well as cooperation on regulatory frameworks, industrial safety and environmental protection.

Arkab said Algeria remains committed to strengthening intra-African cooperation and reinforcing joint action within the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization to support the continent’s energy security. Niang said Senegal was keen to draw on Algeria’s experience in the hydrocarbons sector, particularly following the country’s own recent oil and gas discoveries.
