IAEOGS 2025 Code of Conduct

Purpose

The International African Energy, Oil and Gas Summit (IAEOGS) is Africa’s premier platform for investment, dialogue, and collaboration in the energy sector. Since its inception, IAEOGS has brought together global financiers, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore opportunities that shape the continent’s energy future.

As IAEOGS grows, it remains essential to ensure that all participants — delegates, speakers, exhibitors, staff, and volunteers — experience a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.

This Code of Conduct applies to all official IAEOGS events, exhibitions, gala dinners, side meetings, networking spaces, and online platforms. Participation in IAEOGS 2025 implies full agreement with this Code of Conduct.

Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviours are considered unacceptable both in-person and online:

  • Verbal comments or actions that reinforce stereotypes or discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, age, disability, religion, nationality, or sexual orientation.
  • Harassment, intimidation, or victimisation of participants.
  • Verbal threats, physical intimidation, or violence.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, physical contact, or suggestive behaviour.
  • Unauthorised photography, recording, or publication of participants’ personal details.
  • Sustained disruption of panels, meetings, or networking sessions.
  • Drugging food or drinks, or any act that compromises participant safety.
  • Stalking, targeting, or online harassment of participants.
  • Encouraging or advocating for any of the above behaviours.

Any violation may result in immediate removal from the event, referral to venue security or law enforcement, and exclusion from future IAEOGS events.

Guide to Communication

IAEOGS brings together participants from diverse disciplines, languages, and cultural contexts. To foster constructive engagement, participants are encouraged to:

  • Speak clearly and at a moderate pace, respecting linguistic differences.
  • Avoid jargon, acronyms, or technical terms without explanation.
  • Listen actively and patiently, especially when English is a second language.
  • Debate ideas respectfully without personal attacks.
  • Walk away calmly from unproductive or tense conversations.
  • Propose solutions if disagreeing with a contribution.
  • Respect privacy: seek consent before sharing photos, names, or quotes on social media.
  • Recognise that identities and experiences are complex — avoid generalisations.

Reporting Incidents

If you experience or witness harassment, misconduct, or have concerns regarding participant behaviour, you may report it confidentially through:

  • Speaking directly to an IAEOGS Organising Team member (visible at the information desk throughout the summit).
  • Emailing conduct@iaeogs.com.
  • Calling or sending a WhatsApp/Signal message to any member of the Incident Response Team listed below.

All reports will be handled with discretion, ensuring safety and confidentiality. Where necessary, the IAEOGS team will escalate matters to venue security or law enforcement.

  • All participants must wear their event badges within the venue at all times.
  • Do not post or share information about participants in a manner that could cause harm, stalking, or bullying.
  • Official event photography, audio, and video recordings will only be used for documentation and promotional purposes, not for commercial exploitation.

Commitment

IAEOGS 2025 is committed to creating a professional, safe, and respectful environment for all. By attending, participants agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute positively to a community built on integrity, respect, and collaboration.
