North Bahariya Petroleum Company has completed its first development well under its 2026/2027 drilling programme, reaching target depth four days ahead of schedule and saving an estimated $250,000.
The Abrar-98 well, in the company’s Western Desert concession, reached final depth in just nine days against a planned 13, with the company crediting careful well planning, optimal design and modern drilling technology for cutting non-productive time to zero and lifting drilling efficiency. Costs were trimmed further by repairing and reusing worn drill bits.
During a recent field visit, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation chief executive Salah Abdel Kerim reviewed drilling operations and stressed the importance of accelerating execution while maintaining health, safety and environmental standards and cost discipline to meet production targets.
North Bahariya Petroleum is a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, Sahara North Bahariya, Graystone and INA-Nafta, established in 2004 and operating a 117-square-kilometre concession in the Western Desert.
