Khalda Petroleum has started production from its newly discovered Wanda deep natural gas well in Egypt’s Western Desert at an initial rate of 40 million cubic feet per day, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced.

The well was drilled to a depth of 15,000 feet, where electrical logging indicated positive gas-bearing structures later confirmed by production testing at the 40 mmcf/d commercial rate. To speed up development, Khalda built a 10-kilometre production pipeline at a cost of $2.3 million to link the well directly to existing infrastructure.

The discovery supports the ministry’s strategy of accelerating new finds to boost domestic hydrocarbon production, reinforcing ongoing exploration in the Western Desert and strengthening Egypt’s domestic natural gas supply.
