Sintana Energy has completed drilling at the Mopane-2X well in Namibia’s PEL 83 offshore block, confirming high-quality light oil and adding further weight to the case that the Mopane complex is one of Namibia’s most promising hydrocarbon finds.

Sintana holds a 49% indirect interest in Custos Energy, which in turn holds a 10% working interest in PEL 83 alongside partners Galp and Namibia’s state oil company, NAMCOR. Galp will now analyse the newly acquired geological and reservoir data to determine the commercial viability of the discovery, with the results guiding future appraisal work, development decisions and investment plans for the block.

Mopane-2X marks the third light oil discovery within the complex, and combined with appraisal results from the AVO-1 reservoir, strengthens confidence in the scale and quality of the offshore resource, reinforcing Namibia’s position as a major emerging destination for global oil and gas investment.
