SLB’s OneSubsea joint venture has secured a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Eni for Phase 3 of the Baleine deepwater development offshore Ivory Coast, one of the largest offshore projects currently under way in the region.
The contract covers complete subsea production systems for 13 deepwater wells, including subsea trees, umbilicals, manifolds, multiphase flowmeters and control systems, along with installation, commissioning and life-of-field support. SLB OneSubsea said it would draw on its established in-country presence to support Eni’s accelerated development schedule.
“Baleine Phase 3 brings together scale and execution certainty,” said SLB OneSubsea chief executive Mads Hjelmeland, adding that the company’s subsea technology and local presence would support efficient delivery of the complex deepwater project.
Located in roughly 1,200 metres of water across the CI-101 and CI-802 blocks, Baleine is Ivory Coast’s largest hydrocarbon discovery and its first commercial oil and gas find since 2001. Production began in August 2023, and Phase 2 lifted output to 6,000 barrels of oil per day and 70-80 million cubic feet of associated gas daily by late 2024. Eni and partners Petroci and Vitol sanctioned the estimated $4 billion Phase 3 expansion in May 2026, targeting 150,000 barrels per day and 200 million cubic feet of gas daily, with a new FPSO vessel and upgraded offshore infrastructure. Associated gas from the project will feed Ivory Coast’s domestic market to support power generation. SLB OneSubsea joins TechnipFMC, which is supplying flexible flowlines and risers, and Altera Infrastructure, which is providing the new FPSO.
