Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with UK Ambassador Mark Bryson-Richardson to discuss deepening cooperation on renewable energy, grid modernisation, battery energy storage systems and attracting new British investment to Egypt’s power sector.

Esmat highlighted opportunities for British companies in renewable energy projects, electrical equipment manufacturing and grid reinforcement, and pointed to the potential for British expertise in private-to-private renewable energy deals and clean energy solutions for remote areas. The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s target of raising renewables to 45% of its electricity mix by 2028, with the private sector expected to play a central role. The UK ambassador reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt’s electricity sector.
